GOAL: $25,000.00 USD
For 23 years our goal at the Humane Society of Cozumel Island has been to build a model organization in animal welfare and education in Latin America. Our President, Lisa Anne Ramirez along with her Board of Directors, HS staff, volunteer group and engaged citizens have elevated the HSCI to become a world class organization. We have encouraged others to open similar groups in Belize, Baja California, Playa del Carmen, Cancun and Isla Mujeres. All of us working towards the same goal….the well being of domestic animals.
The HSCI has grown from a tiny one room shelter in 1996 to be the first and (until today) only clinic in America to offer a permanent free spay and neuter surgery for dogs and cats.
Expanding beyond spay and neuter, the HSCI has established a rescue program to aid injured, neglected, abused and sick animals of the street, as well as education programs for children, adults, neighbors and local authorities.
The HSCI's capacity reaches more than 1,000 animals and humans each month. Along with free sterilization our services include offering vet care at low and sometimes no cost to local residents, helping independent rescuers with injured or sick animals, organizing groups of school children and volunteers locally and from all over the world who come to learn and lend a hand, door to door education, massive campaigns sterilizing 200+ animals a day and pet assistance to the elderly and lest fortunate.
Our building needs improvement and updates to allow us to give proper service to all the pets and humans that come to us for help.
We are in the process of building a reception area, office and education center. Our building is also in desperate need of some maintenance (electric & plumbing).
